I began my journey to Field Trip as a last minute decision that was heavily influenced by a couple of friends that had attended the previous year. I am very happy that they swayed me enough to take the plunge. It is very hard to summarize such an amazingly rich experience through words, but I will try.
The highlights for me were actually a little different then I expected going into the event. I found that the relationships formed there and the emphasis on people is what really sticks out in my mind as the most valuable take away. The instructors were all incredible, especially my campfire sessions with Dan O'Day and Jose Villa. Dan O'Day was kind and gracious with his time, it’s always a great to meet people you look up to and they exceed your expectations. His view on relationships and the value he places on people was wonderful. Jose Villa was incredible! He gave us way more time then we had slotted with us and spoke to us individually which again was an awesome surprise and exceeded my expectations.
This was truly an environment where valuing people and the creative process to create amazing art came alive. The sessions on a daily basis were valuable and different from traditional conferences. There was much more of an emphasis on the art and the craft then the business side, which was very refreshing and different, from other events I have attended. Thank you to the staff and company’s that helped put this event on, it was actually life changing for me in a few ways. I will see you all again next year.
There are a few images of me below which were shot by Josh Dookhie, Brittany Mahood and Max Power. The cake shots were done spontaneously after our session with Jose Villa. Emily from Whisk And Whittle prepared these cakes as a gift to anyone who would take part in them, just another example of the great character of the people present. Thank-you all. There are so many more positive things I could say about this event but I will spare you the ramble. Enjoy!
